type='text'>Special Session: A Blessing in Disguise?

Well Glory! I’m trying really hard not to lose my religion these days. Here we go again. Another stupid--and I mean stupid-- Special Session of the Kentucky State legislature on the horizon. Last year’s Special Session cost Kentucky taxpayers roughly $60,000 per day if I recall correctly. Governor Steve Beshear was on the radio blaming Senate President David Williams for holding things up and I suppose Williams will return the favor, both hoping to score political points for the 2011 Governors election. Both with a score of zero in my opinion.
Well, I tell ya, I’ve had enough. I don’t care what the excuses are, these clowns in Frankfort are not funny anymore. Kentucky’s debt was at $42billion last I checked at http://www.usdebtclock.org/ and we were recently ranked by Forbes magazine as the “worst ran state”.
What do you suggest we do about it? Glad you asked. During this Special Session Governor Beshear may as well add one more item onto his “agenda“. We need a law ensuring that future Special Sessions are called only in times of true crisis (such as natural disasters or for military purposes) and not to take care of unfinished legislative business or to implement anybody’s political agenda. I figure the less time they spend up there the less damage they can do. What do you all think? If we can get this one simple law passed, it may be well worth the money. But let me tell you what else is worth the money. If this Special Session finally convinces Kentucky voters that David Williams and Steve Beshear both need to be fired, it may well be a blessing in disguise. Adams told wkyt, “We now have government employees making significantly more than the taxpayers who are paying their salaries”. I find it significant that wkyt would be interested in the perspective of Phil Moffett on this issue. Of course, I have my own view of public unions, but first I have a couple of questions for the reader. How many of you approve of the authority of members of Congress to set their own pay? I would like to see a poll on this sometime. My guess is the results would be as low as whatever the job approval of Congress has been lately. Pretty low I suppose. Okay, here’s my next question. Assuming you don’t approve of Congress voting themselves raises, then why would you ever approve of public unions? It is the same deal, only worse because you cannot vote the public employees out if you dislike their job performance. Now to my opinion. We should find a way to cut both the compensation of our legislators and our public employees. It should be politically wise to do so, if we accept the “shared sacrifice” concept, plus it would do more to get Kentucky out of our $42billion dollar debt hole. Now I could vote for that. Maybe I should contact the Phil Moffett campaign and see what they think.

-Michael Maggard --Concerned Citizen

Freedom From Above

On this Sunday, I am so thankful to God for his love and mercy. Well, sort of. Phil Moffett outlined his "four corner" platform, explaining State Sovereignty, eliminating the Kentucky State Income tax, introducing competition and accountability in the educational system, and streamlining Frankfort. Phil's opponent basically talked about all the people he knew in the crowd and how he was buddy's with Rand Paul. I couldn't help but get the sense that one candidate, Phil Moffett, is running for Governor out of a sense of duty. His opponent is a smooth talker and all, but his speece espoused a lot of doodie in my opinion. Being an Independent-minded voter, this is what I witnessed and you all know I call it as I see it. In this case, Kentucky has a clear choice for Governor in 2011. --Michael Maggard -- concerned Kentuckian.

Phil Moffett is Kentucky's Friend

A friend is someone who will tell you the truth. Of course there are nice ways of doing so, but in the end the truth usually hurts for awhile. If we accept the truth and make the proper adjustments, things are always better than before. Kentucky is very fortunate to have a friend in Phil Moffett. He doesn't sugar coat our bugetary problems or want to "kick the can down the road" like the current career politicians do. Phil has a commanding presence and reminds me of my High School Vice-principal, a man nobody dared to cross. Phil Moffett also has a humorous side as I found out today in Frankfort. I hope your enjoy the little video clip below and I hope you will consider supporting this great Patriot. Please go to www.philmoffett.com and help Phil to finance Kentucky's great and necessary campaign for an honest Governor in 2011. I am honored to recommend Phil Moffett to you as Governor of Kentucky and will keep my eye out for others just like him to run for other offices. It will be a difficult task indeed. At the end of class the other students, who were so captivated by the war between the States, file out of the room disposing of their gum in the trash in accordance with classroom rules. The next day in class, Johnny’s teacher Mrs. Grant, announces that all gum is banned from her classroom, even though she strongly suspects Johnny as the rebel who perpetrated the gum crime. After all, teachers are not dumb. She considered sending Johnny marching home with a note explaining why he should have to stay after school to clean the classroom, but decided it against the idea. Johnny is a good kid, normally. Of course, the thirty other students are good kids as well and they follow the classroom rules. Twenty years later, Johnny finds himself in jail for vandalism, having not accomplished much in life so far unless you count having gum banned from his sixth grade history class. But Johnny is a good kid. He’ll learn someday.

<embed src="http://www.youtube.com/get_player" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"width="320" height="266" bgcolor="#FFFFFF"flashvars="flvurl=http://v1.nonxt1.googlevideo.com/videoplayback?id%3D53ca2b6e78d34d71%26itag%3D5%26app%3Dblogger%26ip%3D0.0.0.0%26ipbits%3D0%26expire%3D1331110238%26sparams%3Did,itag,ip,ipbits,expire%26signature%3D40B31B80B334DBB52C1F91826C26AACAD42337F1.2027BD543F9D0E903DD867E06DAFB78B13E83C77%26key%3Dck1&iurl=http://video.google.com/ThumbnailServer2?app%3Dblogger%26contentid%3D53ca2b6e78d34d71%26offsetms%3D5000%26itag%3Dw160%26sigh%3DO-rOEQxvzzG_BV9QQnevLi0SYXo&autoplay=0&ps=blogger"allowFullScreen="true" />

Rand Paul's Simple Bill

Just want to pass on a few tidbits from Dr. Rand Paul’s bill to eliminate $500billion from the 2011 budget for those of you who have not read all 12 whopping pages. Here we go. “Collect delinquent taxes from Federal Employees, $3billion” - page 11, section 22. “Freeze Federal Govt employee pay, $2billion” - page 11, sec 24. Sound pretty good so far? Here’s two of a different type - “The Department of Veterans Affairs shall NOT be subject to funding cuts in fiscal year 2011” - Page 9, sec 16. And this “The Social Security Administration shall NOT be subject to funding cuts in fiscal year 2011” --page 11, sec 2. With that information before us now, I have two points to make. Point number one is that this is the first Federal Budget Bill I have seen that is simple and concise enough to understand. Point number two is that with this bill Senator Rand Paul has switched the question from “what do we cut?” to “what can we afford to fund?” With high unemployment, and interest payments on a $14trillion debt, the simple and sensible answer is “not much”.

Rand Paul's Response to the State of the Union Address

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N0B8--qw1ws&feature=player_embedded

<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; Most of all I like the comaradarie. It is one thing to sit around and complain and "throw shoes at your TV", but a completely new step to get off of the couch and do something about what you think is wrong. Teaparty events are very colorful and interesting and all walks of life are represented. Of course you would not know this from watching the mainstream media. Consider this: Many of the TEAparty activists are elderly and no doubt entitled to social security benefits. I've also seen quite a few disabled in the crowd. Why would the aforementioned associate with a group of people whose ideas (according to the media) were threatening to their livelihoods? Very simple. With a $14trillion dollar national debt, we must eliminate the programs we don't need in order to keep those programs we DO need. And we certainly need to take care of those who cannot take care of themselves. Most everyone in America would agree to this. That is exactly why everyone in America is welcome at the Teaparties. The DEBT is a threat to our national security and the programs that we DO need.
Now to the part I dislike. Though I am a firm believer in Free Speech, I personally do not like finger-pointing. That is why I have used my excellent engineering skills to design the ultimate Teaparty sign-- "Your Basic Protest" sign, made out of scrap cardboard. People seem to like it. But if I really had my way, I would that everyone wear a shirt with the words "It's my fault". As someone has written "We have found the enemy and he is us". Politicians work for us. They naturally do whatever is necessary to keep their jobs. If bringing home "the pork" is what is popular, can we really blame them for it? Bottom line is that WE are the ones at fault and we get the government we deserve. Just being honest.
All in all, the Teaparty is the only vehicle available to all people to bring about change in our government. Unlike the political parties, we do our business in the open and often wear our feelings on our sleeves or signs. There is nothing politically correct about us and that is very freshing in todays times. Please come out and make sure your interests are represented. In our current world of substitutes those words are more prevalent than ever. Why the concept has even permeated our political world if you can imagine that. Can you believe we have some imposters out there claiming to be TEAparty candidates yet have spent enough of your tax money "to choke a mule"? These people are preposterous! On behalf of the people and my fellow teapartiers, I have to ask these ignorant imitators "what kind of fools do you think we are?".
To those of you who maybe do not follow politics, I want to encourage you not be fooled. Check the voting records of the candidates running before believing any jabberwocky they might espouse about fiscal conservatism. Let me give you a simple clue. If they are a current office holder, with only a very few exceptions, they are more than likely part of our fiscal problem. This idea was wildly popular with the people for the Constitution had been slowly subverted since its inception and the liberties of the people trampled. The people flocked to hear this message of individual liberty and responsibility. The phrase “Freedom is popular” was born. The political establishment was not at all happy with the man or the message. They had worked so hard to divide the people into groups so as to control them for their own purposes, and now the people were uniting and demanding honest government and respect for the rule of law.
A couple of years later, a President came into power who was very popular. Though some of his policies appeared good and were well-intended, the subversion of the Constitution continued. The political establishment supported the President of course because he was effective at dividing the people back into groups, and allowing the establishment their control back.
The people began to organize and protest. They didn’t want to be divided any longer. They were tired of a government which had no accountability to the people. This made the political establishment nervous again and so they came up with a plan to trick the people. One of the political parties would do this by sending some of their members among the people, and mimicking the man who had the simple idea of following the Constitution. Many of the people fell for it. They even elected some of these establishment politicians who once they got into office returned to their old tricks of subverting the Constitution. Another political party would seek to racially divide the people in hopes that the movement would not continue to grow. The media strongly supported this idea and started attending the events of the people to find ways to misrepresent their movement.
The movement continues to this day, though it is infiltrated by one political party and misrepresented by another. It is time for the true champions of the Constitution of the United States to reclaim their place in the movement. It is time for every man, woman, boy, and girl regardless of their race or political party to stand shoulder to shoulder again and proclaim that WE the people demand an honest government that respects the rule of law. Will the REAL TEAparty please stand up?

Freedom Rally in Frankfort on 7/10/01

Around 500 or so individuals, including many vendors and various media, gathered at the Frankfort State Capitol for a Freedom Rally on Saturday. Patriotism was high as individuals were expressing their views as to the direction America should take. Although opinions vary as to what this direction should be, I think it is safe to say that most in attendance would agree that we cannot continue on the path we are on, and continue to be free. The fact is we are in financial bondage already and it will take some bold steps to divert us from a total collapse of our economy.

I contributed my 2 cents worth with a cardboard "Basic Protest Sign", just to say I am disgusted with all of it. Some guy walked up to me and said, "Everybody we send up there gets bought out". My reply was, "it is us who are bought out". He then proceeded with a personal sob story and how he needed the government's help. Have we forgotten that life is tough?

If we are constantly making excuses for our failure, we will never succeed at anything. As my dad says, we "do the best we can with what we have to do with". We are not promised success in America, only opportunity.

Both the left and the right want the government to do something for them. That is fine, but we have to remember that "every ounce of government could cost us a pound of liberty". The most discouraging part of it is all is that we seem willing to trade the one for the other. If we really feel that way, then let's cancel the TEAparties and I will save my gas money and cardboard.

TeaParty Guy
Tea Party Dilemma In U.S. Congressional Race

All too often politics is about “who you know”, rather than “what you know“. So it is that people who aspire to run for a political office and hope to be successful at it work to make connections of all sorts, especially within a political party. We as voters have generally accepted this as the status quo, but maybe not in this election cycle.
The Tea Party movement has had an impact on the psyche of the American voter. We are seeing an increasing shift towards “what you know” as the determining factor in who we will consider voting for. Take the 6th District U.S. Congressional race in Kentucky for example. Several Republican candidates are battling over the right to take on the incumbent Democrat Ben Chandler in the General Election. The chatter amongst the Tea Party crowd is focused around “who’s connected to who”. Let’s take a look.
If we examine the financial connections, it is a matter of public record that candidate Andy Barr contributed $1,000 to the Trey Grayson campaign. Grayson is outsider Rand Paul’s opponent in the U.S. Senate race and is considered to be the “establishment” candidate. Such a donation will rule out Mr. Barr to many Tea Party activist voters, but some still support Barr due in large part to his experience in Constitutional Law. The $1000 question to many people is where Mr. Barr’s loyalties will lie if elected - to the Constitution and the people or to his political friends in the “establishment” which the Tea Party voters hope to change.
The playing field is fairly level among the Tea Party candidates in the race. Matt Lockett, Mike Templeman, and John Kemper all are viable, but are dividing the Tea Party vote among themselves. It is unlikely that any of them could win the Republican nomination without the help of the others. Rand Paul, who is winning by double -digits as a Tea Party candidate in the U.S. Senate race has called this “the year of the outsider”. At this point the Tea Party candidates would have to collude and combine their votes to make that happen. And wouldn’t that bring us back to “who you know”? Oh the irony of it all.
--Tea Party Guy

Why attend a TEAParty on April 15th?

Why you should consider attend a TEAParty on April 15:

Excitement-- If you are looking for excitement, a TeaParty is just the place for you. They remind me of the pep-rallies I went to in High School. Each person is cheering for team USA. People bring their home-made signs, each expressing their political opinions or concerns. There are a variety of speakers with unique perspectives on issues.
Inspiration--When you look around and see people in wheel-chairs or on crutches, the very old and the very young and everyone in between all in attendance out of concern for our country, it is very inspiring. Just knowing that there are other people who care gives you a great feeling, especially in troubled times.
Education--The people who attend the TEAparties are very knowledgeable and well-versed on a variety of issues. It’s like a crash course in American history. You often see people in period-dress, folks who could quote you the Constitution word for word and other historical documents. You cannot go to a TEAparty and not learn something. College professors should offer the events for extra-credit.
Patriotism--There are a variety of flags, on shirts, on signs, on vehicles, and waving in the wind. People come out of love for country. Some of them are religious; some are not. All have a honest desire to preserve the spirit of freedom and the principles that made our country great.

Friendship--you cannot attend a TEAparty without making a new friend.

Because You Can-- We still live in the greatest nation in the history of civilization. We have a Constitution that protects our God-given rights to free speech and to assemble peaceably. We strengthen our rights by using them. The condition of our country is due to everyday decisions that we all make. We cannot blame it on one political party or person in power. The first three words of our Constitution, “We The People” say it best. See you there!
--Concerned

Who is in the TeaParty?

TeaParty.org
A message to all members of TeaParty.org
Poll: 40% of Tea Party Identify as Dems, Independents
Sunday, 04 Apr 2010 05:34 PM
Four in 10 Tea Party members are either Democrats or Independents, according to a new national survey. The findings, first reported in The Hill, offer one of the most detailed looks so far at the conservative grassroots movement that started last year. According to three national polls by the Winston Group, a Republican-leaning firm that conducted the surveys on behalf of an education advocacy group:
[] The national breakdown of the Tea Party composition is 57 percent Republican, 28 percent Independent and 13 percent Democrat.
[] Two-thirds of the group call themselves conservative, 26 are moderate and 8 percent say they are liberal.
[] Tea partiers are united around two issues – the economy/jobs and reducing the deficit. They believe that cutting spending is the key to job creation and favor tax cuts as the best way to stimulate the economy.
[] 61 percent of Tea Party members believe infrastructure spending creates jobs. Moreover, given the choice Tea Party members favor 63-32 reducing unemployment to 5 percent over balancing the budget.
[] The group has a favorable view of the GOP generally but that drops from 71 to 57 percent if they’re asked about Congressional Republicans.
[] Congressional Democrats are viewed very unfavorably by 75 percent of Tea Party members. An overwhelming 95 percent said, “Democrats are taxing, spending, and borrowing too much.”
Over 80 percent of Tea Party members disapprove of the job President Barack Obama is doing as president, whereas 77 percent of Republican respondents said they disapprove of Obama.
newsmax.com/InsideCover/tea-party-poll-democrats/2010/04/04/id/354703

MISSING: Kentucky's Attorney General

I am responding to AP writer Roger Alford’s story in the local paper concerning Attorney General Jack Conway’s refusal to file suit against the Federal Government regarding the Constitutionality of the Health Care Bill. One of the primary reasons Mr. Conway gives for not performing his duties as Attorney General is “many legal experts agree the effort is futile”. I wish to give Mr. Conway a little encouragement because he sounds like he needs it. He should rent and watch “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”, an oldie but a goodie. One of my favorite lines in the movie is “the lost causes are the only ones worth fighting for”. If after watching said recommended movie, Mr. Conway still is uninclined to fulfill his oath to the Constitution and obligation to the people who elected him to do so, I would suggest that he tender his resignation. Since he did not show up to address the concerns of the people at the rally last Thursday in Frankfort , one has to wonder if he has not resigned already. Where is Jack?

--Concerned

Inside the TeaParty at Kentucky's Capitol

With the mainstream media trying to characterize the TeaParty in a bad light, I feel obligated to give an account from the inside. And wouldn't that be a little more clearer view than someone observing through a darkened lens? So here is what I witnessed this morning and I promise even though it is April 1st I'm not foolin.
We gathered in the Capitol Rotunda, which is located inside the Frankfort Capitol building in between both houses of Congress and just outside the door of the Governor of Kentucky. I'm not sure how many people the media is reporting or if they was even any media there, but it looked to me to be at least three or four hundred people or more. There were several buses of groups there, a very diverse crowd united in support of protecting the rights of people from an over-reaching Federal Government. That's basically all this TeaParty stuff is about. There is no hidden agenda, just good ole Freedom of Speech at work in America. It was great!
A notable observation is that while the rally was going on, groups of kids (apparently on a tour of the Capitol) were gathered along the balconies to watch. I couldn't keep from wondering what the kids thought. Would this be an event that would spur some of them to become great citizen activists someday? What would they say or write about it later on in their lives? It just seemed to make the event all the more significant.
Several politicians and citizen activists spoke at the event whose names are not important. It's the message that we rally behind. If we put our faith in men or women, we are certain to be disappointed. But ideas live on. One of the speakers, perhaps my favorite of the day, was a pastor. He gave the benediction, but before doing so he mentionioned the significance of our gathering in unity. He mentioned Dr. King's message and that in a free America, ALL of our Civil Rights are respected. It was powerful! The idea of economic freedom has become a major motivation for a lot of people who understand how debt is destroying our Country.
Upon my departure from the event, I walked past a lady and a couple of kids on the Capitol steps. After passing them, I saw three Rand Paul signs laying against the wall. Not wanting the signs to be thrown away, I stopped to pick them up. The aforementioned lady comes running up to me stating, "Hey those are my signs!" I promise you this was the only hint of hostility I witnessed at the event, but it was a good sign. People protecting their property always is.

Expect Change in Kentucky State Legislature

"I'm frustrated by the complete lack of representation in Frankfort, where bills with no co-sponsors and no public support sail through and become law, while legislators ignore the 26 co-sponsors for the Kentucky Firearms Freedom Act and the massive public support, and that bill is allowed by the oligarchy to die in committee.I'll be in the gallery tomorrow, even though I think the strategy will be to avoid hearing the KFFA discharge petition because they don't have time, given that their procedural trick of dismissing the 10th Amendment RESOLUTION won't work with the Kentucky Firearms Freedom ACT. I'll bring almost 1,700 KFFA petitions as a visual reminder of the support for this legislation. This is probably just a symbolic gesture, but I'm obligated to do whatever I can, even if it's symbolic.... They need to know that they serve at the pleasure of the people, and they can never take that for granted, because as soon as the people are no longer pleased, they're out of a job. I'm convinced that a good YouTube video or two and a lot of phone calling and grassroots campaigning can remove almost any state legislator. Thanks to everyone who has been going to Frankfort and working in this frustrating environment "-- Liberty4Ever

Get Organized

With the president signing this unwanted and “transformative” government takeover of our health care system today with promises impossible to keep, let’s not get discouraged. Don’t get demoralized. Get organized! We’re going to reclaim the power of the people from those who disregarded the will of the people. We’re going to fire them and send them back to the private sector, which has been shrinking thanks to their destructive government-growing policies. Maybe when they join the millions of unemployed, they’ll understand why Americans wanted them to focus on job creation and an invigorated private sector. Come November, we’re going to print pink slips for members of Congress as fast as they’ve been printing money. We’re paying particular attention to those House members who voted in favor of Obamacare and represent districts that Senator John McCain and I carried during the 2008 election. Three of these House members are retiring – from Arkansas’s 2nd district, Indiana’s 8th district, and Tennessee’s 6th district – but we’ll be working to make sure that those who replace them are Commonsense Conservatives. The others are running for re-election, and we’re going to hold them accountable for this disastrous Obamacare vote. They are: Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-1), Harry E. Mitchell (AZ-5), Gabrielle Giffords (AZ-8), John Salazar (CO-3), Betsy Markey (CO-4). Allen Boyd (FL-2), Suzanne M. Kosmas (FL-24), Baron P. Hill (IN-9), Earl Pomeroy (ND-AL), Charlie Wilson (OH-6), John Boccieri (OH-16), Kathy Dahlkemper (PA-3), Christopher Carney (PA-10), John M. Spratt, Jr. (SC-5), Tom Perriello (VA-5), Alan B. Mollohan (WV-1), and Nick J. Rahall II (WV-3). We’ll aim for these races and many others. This is just the first salvo in a fight to elect people across the nation who will bring common sense to Washington. We had a turn out of about 100 people which is not bad in Lexington mid-day while the Cats are playing in the SEC Tournament. I was really pleasantly surprised.
Several political candidates showed up who are running against Chandler for the Kentucky 6th District US Congressional seat. They gave their speeches while standing on a pile of rocks. One candidate lost his shoe. lol Folks these are the details you won't get in the Lexington Herald Leader.
A local Conservative talk-radio show host rallied the crowd as we all turned toward Chandler's local office and shouted "Ben Chandler, you're fired!" I love this stuff.
